Penang Ferry is one of the oldest mode of transportation in Penang. You can get to the island using the ferry service or by the Penang Bridge. The ferry ride from Butterworth to Penang Island is short and it takes approximately 20 minutes.
More often than not, you can see people armed with cameras taking pictures of the Penang skyline from the ferry.
These open-deck ferries are still well-preserved and retain many of its old charms, including the seats on the pedestrian deck with its large open windows on the upper section of the ferry. The lower deck is made available for moving vehicles.
I was delighted to be able to photograph the infinity of shapes of these fascinating clouds. It makes me appreciate clouds even more.
Standing tall above the rest is Komtar, Penang's tallest building, a 65 storey tower located in Georgetown.
Ferry leaving the terminal
I like the mysterious wisp of cloud in the sky with these vessels passing by!

Travelling by ferry is ok so long the water's not choppy. Otherwise it can be a nightmare...especially on longer journeys.
ReplyDeleteI don't like boarding ships, ferries and boats.
I'm like Mei Teng. On calm waters, then taking a ferry would be nice.
ReplyDeleteTaking the ferry on a particularly choppy water in HK was no fun for me at all!
Nice photos, Life Rambling. You are using your hubby's new Nikon D90?
I like taking ferry, it is most helpful especially during the final countdown towards new year.
ReplyDeleteI can avoid the traffic jam.
Mei,
ReplyDeleteboarding the Pg ferry is fine as the distance from the mainland to the island is short and the water appears to be calm. I'll def avoid boarding ferries that serve long distance as i'm afraid of getting seasick too.
Lina,
I remember boarding the ferry from HK to Macau. it was an unpleasant experience as the choppy waters and lumpy waves caused massive problems for many passengers getting seasick, including myself.
all shots were taken by Sony DSC and not Nikon. I'd still be using my old camera for my future posts unless stated otherwise. it's not practical to lug around a DSLR everywhere esp when it's too bulky and even heavier with the additional lens. :(
Rain,
i usually avoid using the ferry service during peak season as the queue to the ferry terminal can be extremely long.
wow those are beautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteu may view mine here
I've never taken the ferry to Penang..cause I've never been to Penang he he! :)
ReplyDeleteBut I know it's a superb place and if I ever visit, I'd surely wanna pig out!! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! Happy WW.

ReplyDeleteI had several ferry rides already going island hopping and visiting some historical isalnd sites. It's a very pleasant experience and I'd love to bring my kid/s for the same experience in time.
I love the clouds too, so fluffy!

ReplyDeleteHi Life Ramblings, I have always loved Penang ferries.
ReplyDeleteYou name the time, I have been aboard. I hardly go on the bridge.
And the most beautiful is on New Year's eve. Try that...
Best regards, Lee.
Todays pictures are very scenic and well taken. It makes Penang so very beautiful. Nice pics on skywatch too. Just look at the clouds! I first thought the scenery was of Hong Kong.

ReplyDeleteWow! The clouds are...very enigmatic. As if it was going to pour. :p
ReplyDeleteSo Komtar is the tallest building in Penang? I didn't know that. I have been to Komtar only once. :p
ReplyDeleteAnyway thanks for sharing LR. Have a nice day.
There is something special about a ferry thanks for all the pictures it gives a sense of the experiences. Even the high rises are picturesque with the beautiful mountains behind them
ReplyDeleteCan see a nice contrast in the buildings - the old and new.
ReplyDeleteyea...the clouds are beautiful. nice shot!hehe...nowadays they still use ferry? i thought got the bridge already?
ReplyDeleteThe cranes are like giraffes witnessing the departure of the ferry.
ReplyDeleteNice shots, I have always enjoyed ferry rides as long as the water is calm.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! Love the last one.
ReplyDeleteI miss ferry rides, it's been years since I had one. I would certainly bring my kids to try it someday :)
I really do love those clouds...you captured them beautifully!
ReplyDeleteNice shots. It's a long time since I was on a ferry.
ReplyDeleteI like taking a ferry because it's open and you can see the view around. I wish it's summer already here where I am. The cloud is really magnificent over the mountain and the ferry.
ReplyDeletemorning LR! oh I've never taken the ferry from Butterworth to Penang ..
ReplyDeletewow all shots were taken by Nikon? so beautiful!! ;)
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely photos. I don't get to ride ferries too much and when I do it is definitely an experience. I'd love for my kids to get to do this. I hope we do get to do this on our trip later this year. DV.
ReplyDeleteI love the ferry ride 'coz it's so windy!
ReplyDeleteIncredible pictures. That was a lot of blue! :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of blue, blue sky and white fluffy clouds! :)
ReplyDeleteOne of our favorite trips is to Seattle where we ride the ferry a couple times. I know just what you are talking about here. When we are on the ferries, just looking back at the skyline makes me reflect on what it all used to be like before us people.
