PhotoHunt - Together

These were captured during our boat excursion to the volcanic island of Nea Kameni in Santorini.

DSC_0401
It was an awesome ride that brings together all the beautiful sights of the volcanic landscape.

A typical view of the caldera cliffs that can be seen almost everywhere from the boat.

DSC_0404-1
The cliffs around the bay house many species of seabirds. If only those birds could talk, I'm sure they would have interesting stories to tell.

My hubby and I were happy that we made friends on the boat, learned about the history of the island and most of all enjoying the magnificent views from the water together.

Skywatch - Clouds above sea

An ocean of clouds greeted us while heading to Santorini from Athens last year. With the dry hazy weather we've been experiencing of late, I would love to be above the clouds right now, it looks much prettier than the sky below at the moment.

My World - Cherubs fountain

Further to my previous post on Pisa, here are more photos of my trip. I'm still enjoying the photos I captured there and hope you like them too.

DSC_0102
Delicately carved with attention to details, this lovely structure highlights three playful cherubs holding up a shield atop the drinking fountain.

DSC_0103
No matter which angle you look, the majestic statue just blows you away. Their innocent looks and chubby- cheeks will make anyone smile. I can understand why tourists are busy mingling around the spot, waiting patiently for their place in the photo with the Cherubs. They are too cute to resist. :)

Skywatch - Penang skyline from ferry

I took these recent photos while crossing on the ferry from Butterworth to Penang. It was a lovely day and riding the ferry allows you to soak up the sea breeze and amazing views. Here are some of my favourite shots from the ride. Enjoy!

Standing tall above the rest is Komtar, Penang's tallest building, a 65 storey tower located in Georgetown.

My World - Lines and patterns

All the lines and patterns caught my attention.

It's always great to keep an eye for patterns, they are all around us. Look around you and you’ll probably see one right now.

PhotoHunt - Backwards

DSC_0063-2
A typical scene of street vendors throughout Moscow. I spotted these fellas engaged in a discussion with one facing forward and two facing backwards. I wonder what the discussion was about. Hopefully they are not grumbling about those darn tourists always capturing their photo.

And here's a picture of me facing backwards braving the snow while heading for the banks of Moscow River.

My World - Moscow subway stations

Following up with my previous post, here are a few more photos of Moscow's subways.

DSC_0033
There is always something interesting to see while walking through the Moscow metros. Many of it's most beautiful stations were built during the Stalinist era and I find each station absolutely stunning and I can safely say that all metros are pretty much grafitti free! The above shot was taken at the Mendeleevskaya metro station and I really like these unusual light fixtures which looks like molecules structures. I found out that it was named after the Siberian chemist, Dmitri Mendeleev, who put together the periodic table. Hence the station's unusual lights, in a shape mimicking molecular chains.

Photos were strictly forbidden but despite the tight security everywhere, I was glad that I managed to sneak a few photos of the stations.

DSC_0040
This is another station I managed to capture but I don't remember the name of this metro. This one looks much plainer, but still tastefully and uniquely designed.

D90
Here is an example of how Moscow's subway map looks like. There are 11 different lines each designated and distinguished by different numbers, colours and names of the stations. Interchanges can be confusing and complicated as all signs are in Cryllic with no English translation underneath them. I don't speak any Russian myself, but it is still possible to navigate around. We basically counted the number of stops of our destination and then hoped it was the right one but a word of caution, peak hour is strictly not for the faint hearted.

My World - Santorini countryside

A ride through the beautiful countryside of Santorini is one of the most enjoyable experiences for me. It is hard to not be totally awestruck by the beauty of it all.

We made our way from Fira to Oia and the pleasant ride takes us on a greenery landscape along the countryside of Santorini.

Here are some glimpses of my journey through my lens.

DSC_0761
The typical white-washed villages are characteristic features of the Santorinian countryside.

DSC_0722
Here, the greenery seems endless. Around the next bend, greens stretching as far as the eye can see. I could not believe how much green I saw!

DSC_0746
The tranquil landscape arouses the feelings of home and family life with quiet villages and quaint cottages along the breathtaking ocean views.

DSC_0756
We passed yet another splendid view along the way.

DSC_0748
I truly enjoy the countryside, quite different from other European countries and re-looking at these photos once more and writing about it makes me want to go back to Santorini someday.

I hope you enjoy looking at these photos as much as I have enjoyed taking them.

PhotoHunt - Busy

DSC_0075
A busy waterfront at Eminonu in Istanbul with Suleymaniye mosque in the background. There are lots of vendors, vehicles and pedestrians along the promenade.

DSC_0216
The waterfront area is always busy with fish sandwich boats moored at the dock and the cruise ferries going back and forth.

DSC_0226
We took a ferry across the busy Bosphorus for a 90 minute ride and the cruise was a wonderful way to see the city along the shores.
