PhotoHunt - Bags

Every Monday is 'No Plastic Bags Day' in Penang. Over the course to reduce the consumption of plastic bags and encourage the use of eco grocery bags, a 20-sen charge per bag will be imposed on consumers by most major stores. Proceeds will be donated to the state’s Partners Against Poverty (PAP) campaign to help the hardcore poor. With the hysteria surrounding global warming, I think it’s a great move to help protect the planet.

Doing my contribution for the environment, I try to bring my own bags when grocery shopping avoiding plastic bags. But seriously, I think more and more people should practise this initiative more often, if not daily. I keep some reusable bags in the back of my car, but the only problem is that I need to cultivate the habit of remembering to grab them along whenever I go shopping. Imagine if people consistently use reusable bags, eventually there will no longer have tons of plastic bags accumulating at home which are hard to recycle and that people feel sorry about throwing away.

  1. I should really consider bringing my own grocery bag. I saw someone did that at the supermarket one day. Helps to reduce the use of plastic bags.

Your post serves as a timely reminder :)

  3. Absolutely! I am a supporter of green efforts and own many reusable bags myself. I believe that if everyone can help to be green at work and at home, we can each do a little part to save the environment and the future environment of our descendants.

  7. I have a few of those eco bags from Jusco. Because the bags can be folded, pretty easy to stash the eco bag inside my handbag. They are very useful not only for stuffing groceries, but for other things too. I even brought the eco bag with me to Japan! LOL

  10. I grew up going to the market and bringing my own bag. It is only when supermarkets started showing up that plastic bags came into fashion. We all have bags at home we can carry our purchases in so why not use that.

I enjoyed your green take on the theme. Happy halloween weekend.

  20. I try my best to support the environment in any way but no matter how much we try to educate Malaysia, it's sad to see that many just don't care. Stiffer laws should be passed to make this happen.
