PhotoHunt - Addiction

I've always loved chocolates and it is a strong addiction that I can't break free from. If you love chocolates of any kind, the Sachertorte is a must have when visiting Vienna. I can't say it is the most amazing desert I have ever tasted, but it's something everyone ought to experience at least once in a lifetime!

For those who may not be so familiar with this cake, the Original Sacher-Torte has been the world's famous cake since 1832 and the original recipe is a well-kept secret. I was told that there were hundreds of imitations of this dessert to date, but it's highly recommended to go to Hotel Sacher itself where it was originally created.

The Sacher cake is made of chocolate sponge cake with a thin coated apricot jam in the center and dark chocolate icing coating the entire cake. Each slice is traditionally served with a huge dollop of unsweetened whipped cream. The cake is slightly dry yet it tastes best with a portion of the whipped cream. I enjoy the less sweet taste of it and the chalky feel of dark, dark chocolate.

And one piece is definitely not enough to fill my chocolate addiction. There's no time to even think about the calories. So I had two slices of tortes of different varieties along with the outstanding cuppa coffee to soothe my addiction.

This is the plush cafe outside the Hotel Sacher overlooking the Vienna streets. It's a great feeling being able to sit here enjoying my cravings and the atmosphere is very inviting, personal and welcoming. It’s not just about enjoying the delightful cakes, but also to get a taste of Austria’s traditional coffee-house culture with the Sacher flair.

Having a cuppa coffee here is sure to please even for those non-coffee drinkers like me. For my choice of coffee, I choose Wiener melange, a Viennese blend of coffee and milk foam. It has a comforting creamy quality and is typically dusted with cocoa powder. If you're a coffee lover, this is definitely the place to satisfy your daily addiction to coffee.

PhotoHunt - Jiggly

I've always enjoyed good Portuguese egg tarts and every time I'm in town, I will swing by to get these delicious treats to satisfy my cravings, despite the long wait in line. With its jiggly tart goodness, my knees got all wobbly and they are so perfect to snack on in front of the TV with a cup of flavourful tea. The edges of the crust are simply crispy and flaky, jiggly in center and just sweet enough not to be overpowering. They're best eaten fresh and piping hot. Bon Appetit!

Scrumptious Egg tarts

It was a rainy, chilly afternoon and I had this sudden crave for portuguese egg tarts and if you've not tasted this irresistible dessert before, you're missing out on some sweet, mouth-watering, fragrant egg custard.

In my previous trip to Macau, I had the best, authentic Portuguese Egg Tarts and the entire tart was tasty enough to be gobbled up in seconds. The crust was flaky and richly creamy and the custard was smooth and sinfully delicious. Those were the best portuguese egg tarts I ever had in my lifetime.

So far, one of the better egg tarts I've tasted can be found in Carnarvon St, Penang. Never mind the price, the egg tarts here are very enticing to the taste buds, in terms of its delicate flaky pastry, freshness and wobbly filling. The eggs-cellent treats are selling like hot cakes the moment they arrived at the shop.

Personally, I prefer the Portuguese style egg tarts to the normal egg tarts. While the original version at times crumbly and less flaky, the Portuguese egg tart literally tasted much better and I could feel the fragrant custard oozing out on first bite. The sweetness is just perfect for me. Hmmm........incredibly yummy.

Hungry now? I am.

Tasty Puffs

Most of us would probably have eaten curry puffs countless times, but have you tried the unique variations like Crispy Durian Puffs, Pandan Chicken Puffs or other flavours? Crispy puffs or curry puffs are a quintessential snack in Malaysia and they have been one of my all time favourite snacks since childhood.

We heard about a bakery that serves probably the best tasty puffs in town and it’s located at Lagenda Heights, near Alor Setar. They have a wide range of puffs and I love the piping hot puffs with their irresistible crispy pastry.

this outlet offers unique crispy puffs of savoury varieties

The crispy puffs are made fresh daily and stamped with a symbol to differentiate their respective fillings.

This is durian puff filled with durian puree. I just love this piping hot puff when the durian filling ozzes out of the thin ultra crispy pastry. It's soft, fragrant and richly creamy. The sweetness is just right for me. Hmmm..........so yum, yum. Priced at RM2.50 each, the huge tasty pufffs are selling like hot cakes here and the quantities are actually quite limited. Every mouthful bite releases the sumptuous taste of durian, in fact I almost felt like eating the aromatic fruit.

Since the durian puffs was such a hit, I ordered the pandan chicken puff which is equally tantalising to the taste buds. Priced at RM1.80 each, the aromatic puff is filled with delicious chunks of chicken, potatoes and a quarter of a hard-boiled egg in a thin and crunchy crust. Hmmm......so sinfully delicious!

PhotoHunt - Flags

I think cupcake flags are just so cool, especially when it comes to parties and special occasions. They instantly add a touch of fun to a batch of cupcakes and they are great to set the mood and carry the mood over the dessert table.

I've always loved cupcakes which are sweet handful that requires no knife, no spoon and no fork. You just peel back the paper and eat. Not only are they yummy indulgence, they are the ideal portion size and I can see why most people and even kids are so captivated with these little treats. They're something easy to hold and eat with one hand, easy to display and easy to serve, don't you think?

Malaysian cupcake flags

If you're feeling patriotic, I bet that would be the excellent patriotic touch to any desserts for the upcoming Independence Day party. Alternatively, desserts can be personalised with different flag designs to suit the occasion.

Have a great weekend and Happy PhotoHunting!

PhotoHunt - Creamy

Having been a brownies fan, I simply can't resist this gooey chocolately goodness as it's richly creamy, moist and luscious. It's usually made with lashings of chocolates and it's stunningly delicious with a tinge of peanuts dancing around my taste buds. I could smell the chocolate from the distance, it's simply divine. The melt in your mouth cake is comforting and a great once in a while treat!

Happy Creamy weekend, everyone!

Sweet desserts for Chinese New Year

I've always loved this delicacy since I was a kid and my mom made my all time favorite dessert last weekend. This is one of the quintessential Chinese ever popular dessert soups and often served at special events such as weddings and the Chinese new year. As we already know, the Chinese New Year is associated with common traditions and practices when it comes to food.

Not only is this dessert soup enticing it is actually good for general well-being as well. This recipe has been passed down for generations as a nutritious dessert. The old folks believe it is good for the complexion and boost your memory. Apparently, everyone has their own version of making this dessert. Most of the time, white fungus, ginkgo nuts, longans and sea coconuts are preferred in my mom's list of ingredients.

So, here's wishing everyone a sweet year with reasons to smile all year round!
