My World - Mounted police in Moscow

A couple of mounted police were seen patrolling the State Historical Museum on Red Square, Moscow.

I find it amazing to see such well trained horses and dedicated riders work so well together. They make a winning team, each trusting one another and best of all, they're great at interacting with the crowd too.

During my visit, the horses appear to be calm and quiet in every occasion. I've not seen one startled or look out of control in anyway and it makes one feel safe and secure walking through the streets. With such courteous mounted unit, people love to touch and pet the horses and I hope they are a permanent attraction.

  2. How come they were assigned to be there? Perhaps it is more accessible by using horses? :)

  3. Or perhaps these mounted police add more prestige to the place. You know they make the place look classier. :)

  8. Thanks for your kind comments everyone.

    Tekkaus,
Mounted police are a common sight in Russia as well as in other countries. i think it's a great idea to have the mounted patrol unit in the streets. horses can travel on sidewalks, navigate narrow streets, and jump over things, unlike patrol cars.
i agree that they add so much presence and character to the streets.

    Lina,
my advice is DON'T in Russia. The Russian police seem to spend almost all of their time checking tourists' documents at places like Revolution Square and Red Square. we managed to avoid being stopped but saw countless people being checked and even taken away. how sad!

  16. Love the horses and they do look so well trained. Having owned horses and ridden for many years, I find this shot particularly appealing! Hope your week is off to a great start! Enjoy!

  17. The horses are beautiful, and the police don't look at all scary. In Canada, we have the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, but we seldom see them on horses except for special occasions.
