Spotted these female statues with missing head and limbs at the Library of Celsus in Ephesus. These statues were replicas and the originals were taken to the Vienna museum when the library was being excavated.
Here are three of them:
This one representing knowledge (Episteme).
Statue of Arete (virtue)
And this one symbolizing Sophia, the Goddess of wisdom
Blogger was down for over the last 24 hours and as a result, my previous posts and comments went missing. However my posts seemed to have been recovered this morning but a number of comments were still missing. I hope the problems will be resolved soon and I want to thank those who left comments, they are much appreciated.

ReplyDeletehmmmm..... wonder what happened to the head?
ReplyDeleteVery strange that Episteme representing knowledge is missing her head the very body part that stores knowledge :-).

Excellent take on the theme. It is ironic that Episteme has no head given her area of interest! Have a great weekend
ReplyDeleteGreat shots and it looks like that is beautiful architecture.
ReplyDeleteAfter all the horror stories i've heard recently about Blogger, i'm glad I moved to the much more reliable Wordpress, long ago.

Great shots - one has to wonder in which museum those missing heads are sitting . . .
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
These are great shots! Since they are copies I wonder if the originals are missing their limbs too?
ReplyDeleteDear friends,
ReplyDeleteThe statue was found headless when originally excavated, and i think its head might have been possibly lopped off during ancient times. :S According to my research, original statues were taken to the Ephesus Museum in Vienna in 1910 and they were later restored by experts.
These are so beautiful. I'm glad that Blogger came back so that you didn't have to miss this week's hunt. Have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteSeems like heads and arms are always the first things to go.
ReplyDeleteHaha :D It's funny that you actually spotted all those missing limbs, head etc.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteI was frustrated with the Blogger mess too. My disappeared posts came back with no comments and I didnt do any blog walking for few days. I am back now :D
Amazing figures, to be sure. The missing head reminds me how vulnerable we are. Incredible images. Thanks.
