Our World - Rooftop sculptures

There is always something interesting to see while walking through Vienna. If you look attentively at the buildings, you will discover a lot of creative and eye-catching sculptures on the rooftops.

Here are some of my favourite shots for your viewing pleasure.

A sculpture of a screaming woman on top of an Art Nouveau building by Otto Wagner, one of the most notable architects of Vienna. She was screaming so loud and I wonder if she was often asked to tone her screams down. :)

This is another style of Art Nouveau by Otto Wagner that I came across at Postparkasse (Postal Savings Bank) building. While some people might find it bizarre, I really like the look of that installation art work and I couldn't resist taking a shot.

This goddess of victory totally rocks. I noticed her standing high in the air holding a laurel waving for attention. Her outstretched wings appear luminous and ready for take off. Couldn’t take my eyes off her!

If people didn't look up, they might have missed these interesting artwork. It pays to keep your eyes open. You'll be surprised by some of the unique things you might encounter if you keep your head up.

  6. Yes it really pays to look up, and you've got those marvelous photos. I've not been to Vienna but I realized there's a lot of sculptures on any vacant spaces in those EU countries, like where i've been, Sweden, Copenhagen, Italy. I seem to relate them to the symbology theory of Robert Langdon e.g. Angels and Demons, Da Vinci Code. haha!

  13. It would be great if the "screaming" woman came with sound effects. There is nothing better than statues on a rooftop to decorate a gray skyline. :)
