A flock of mallards resting on frozen river in Moscow late winter.
There were some big chunks of broken ice on the river and it looked freezing cold
but they seemed to be coping just fine.
Amazing that those ducks can sleep or rest standing on the icy water. I hope they survived through winter.
Watery WednesdayWordless Wednesday
guess that is why ducks have all that fat.
ReplyDeletethey are wearing down!

At the risk of anthropomorphizing the ducks, they look as though they might be freezing. I'd be.
ReplyDeleteLooks freezing cold to me, they seem stronger than I because they can stand the cold. :P
ReplyDeleteWe always used to feed the ducks in Amsterdam in the winter - and provide warm water for them to drink!
ReplyDeleteBonza photos, i especially like the duck in the 3rd photo and his yellow beak and orange feet which really stand out against the ice :-).
ReplyDeleteYes it's amazing how their feet can brave that cold. Maybe their feet's skin has already acclimatized with their climate and already very thick unlike our ducks here both in Malaysia and the Philippines.
ReplyDeletethey virtually stand on water! gorgeous shots!
ReplyDeleteI think about penguin feet sometimes at night when it's cold and get up and walk barefoot on the cold floor and curl up my toes to have the least contact, how penguins do the same. These little guys are standing flat footed on the ice, I wonder if their webbed feet go numb.
ReplyDeleteVery nice photos, nice structure. I like especially the second one.
ReplyDeleteThe poor ducks, I am sure that they don't like to be on the ice. Good photos.
ReplyDeleteWhy the mallards have a built-in heater in their web feet? Grrrrrrr..ma feet frozen already hahaha. Nice pix of the broken pieces of ice.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! I hope they are warm, I am getting a chill for them.
ReplyDeleteAmazing strength, those ducks! Makes me cold just looking at them though.
ReplyDeleteCool photos. I like the way the sky is reflected in the ice--kind of a broken mirror effect--but the ducks are really neat, too.
ReplyDeleteI loved the title. The photos also didn't disappoint! Very nice.
ReplyDeleteLoved these photos, really good.
ReplyDeleteouff ! I thought it was now !! pour things ! Very nice pictures !
ReplyDeleteIncredible detailing on the icy surface. Great job.
ReplyDeleteWater is the best of all things.

I love the reflections in some of the photos. Brrrrr though!
ReplyDeleteThese are neat pictures. I've seen ducks on ice here during the winter, but our winters are much shorter than those in Moscow.
ReplyDeleteTheir webbed feet must have insulated them from the cold. :D
ReplyDeleteThey do seem to be managing quite well on the frozen water. They are hardy ducks!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Cool shots (literally too :P). I love the way the ice looks.
ReplyDeletesome one please send some rubber gum boots from Malaysia to Moscow.
ReplyDeleteLooks so cold but the birds are cute. Hope they will eat many food.
ReplyDeleteOh I didnt know they are called mallards : )
ReplyDeleteDucks don't feel the cold like we do.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics!
They are hardy little birds, and used to cold water and ice.
ReplyDeleteI like your header photo of the tea plantation.
Looks like they are all enjoying the ice covered water. ^_^
ReplyDeleteWow, I've never seen ice like this. The reflection is great.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they got into the Vodka...
ReplyDeleteMaybe they have lots of duck fat? :)
ReplyDeleteI love the ice on the water, lovely shot.
ReplyDeleteThose are like sharp broken window glasses. Really amazing creatures. :)
