Are you health conscious?

Many people are starting to become more and more health conscious these days and I'm no exception. Due to my busy lifestyle of juggling work, family and other commitments, taking nutritional supplements seems to be the best way to go. I should practice looking my best at all times because I want to still look good even when I'm 50. :) It's amazing to see some 50 year old people look like they are in their early 30s! I've to confess that it is rather difficult, even for me, to stay away from fast foods or unhealthy foods at times. More often, I eat my fruits, vegetables and whole grains, but when it comes to chocolates, I throw caution to the wind! I understand how people enjoy their meals and what tantalizes their taste buds. Hey, everyone needs at least one indulgence, right?

Anyway, here's a list of dietary supplement protocol that I take on a regular basis.

Natural Factors Cod Liver Oil is a nutritional supplement derived from the liver of cod fish, and it is chalked full of omega 3 fatty acids, as well as vitamins A, D. I take cod liver oil to keep my joints supple. It is especially useful for individuals with digestive problems since they may have difficulty converting Beta Carotene (provitamin A) into vitamin A.

Kordel's Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) has many beneficial properties which promote general well-being with little or no known side effects. It certainly improves my skin condition as well as effective for pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) related difficulties.

Alterni's High Absorption Milk Calcium- A good calcium supplement that is natural, contain a combination of minerals in the right ratios, and is highly absorbed and easy to take.

Organos Fruits and Vegies Antioxidant capsules-each capsule contains 500mg of organic fruit and vegies extracts.
Antioxidants help prevent the free radical damage that is associated with cancer and heart disease.

With these nutritional supplements, I get wholesome nourishment my body needs, easily and conveniently. It seems to be a wonderful win-win situation for me as it helps to boost my health and wellness to my family.
I take short walks every morning and feeling physically better, even lost a bit of weight! Because everyone needs me, I need to take good care of myself too.

As I eat out 5 days a week, I can't say I am all that health conscious but I do try to eat healthy food even when dining out and do some exercise. :)

  9. I take health as priority no. 1 in life cos I believe without good health, all the money in the world also do you no good!

I try to eat balanced meals everyday but sometimes it's hard, so I rely on my supplements. I regularly take multivitamins and minerals, bee pollen, ling zhi, and Omega 3 oil. I also make sure I do some exercises at least 3 times a week.

And I try my best to avoid all those artificial colourings, preservatives, MSG in food, although admittedly it's hard if I eat out. I also avoid Coke, coffee and any kind of soft drinks.

But I do indulge in cakes, chocolates and cookies at least once or twice a week. I think it's OK to indulge a little bit as life is meant to be enjoyed! : )

  10. Another good post from you, very informative. It's good to take care of others but we should mind our own health too. I always cook balanced meat, seafoods & veggies for our meals and I take vitE and folic acid as prescribed by my OB. =)

  12. lina,
It's impossible to eat healthy our whole lives, even though we may try hard to do so. at least, u take the initiative to cook on weekends which is a good move.

  13. ECL,
It may be hard to completely eliminate chocolates and sweet cravings every once in a while, but the point is, as long as you don’t go overboard, then it should be ok.

yeah, i drink green tea from time to time too.

  14. stan,
No doubt about it, we live in a fast paced world these days. many of us are not getting enough of our vitamins through our diet because we aren't eating enough vitamin enriched food.

  15. foong,
wow, that's a lot of vitamins you consumed.

eating out all the time can be boring and not all restaurants serve decent food. nothing beats home-cooked meals though.

at times, it's hard to avoid those high-fat and high-sugar diet from outside food while on the move.

  16. Ayie,
good, healthy food is usually a lot more expensive than unhealthy food.

yeah, it is essential to take care of ourselves first so that we can take care of our loved ones too.

at times, it's pretty nerve wracking when my kids refuses to eat or is extremely fussy about food. i often find it frustrating to manage their diet to make sure enough fibre is included in my kids' diet.

  17. I used to take Nutrilite (Amway brand) but now I find that I can get by well enough without it. Balanced eating can help sometimes, but I guess it doesn't hurt to get some multivitamins as long as they are not too expensive. The 180-day Nutrilite thing is quite affordable at RM 90+.

  18. JL,
yeah, vitamins can get very expensive esp. those organic ones. I take supplements on a daily basis to maintain my general well-being.

  20. It's a pain seeing kids indulge with junkies and it's not easy to make them eat all the healthy foods.
