Nature's Umbrellas

Picture 119
On my way out a few weeks ago, I spotted these growing on someone’s front lawn. I'm not sure if they're edible but a wrong guess could be fatal. They were white with a few brown spots on the top side. Unfortunately, I 'm unable to find any information on the fungi in the photos shown here.

I couldn’t resist taking more pictures of them. The front yard was teaming with life, going steady and continuous. It reminds me a lot of the Smurf mushroom village.

on a closer inspection, I must admit, I found its soft leathery texture to be quite amazing.

  4. Great photos! Incredible detail on the underside shot. Too bad mushrooms don't come with signs telling us whether they are safe to eat...

  5. If they are huge and with wide hats they look exactly as parasol mushroom : http://www.menyse.com/3.12974/varufakta/stolt-fjallskivling/

  8. Mushrooms cooked in garlic butter with a touch of basil then placed on a piece of toast yummmmmy!. I've been on many mushroom hunts and the last photo tells me they're not edible because the underside should be dark, you were wise to leave them alone.

  11. I know it may be confusing for you, Life Ramblings, but these mushrooms - called also Parasol in popular language - are edible! I have eaten them many times. They grow at the border of the forest, where more light is (at least in my country).

  14. I think they are Macrolepiota procera, and with high foot very good, fried in butter. They smell almond. Very fine pictures.

  20. The mushrooms I uncover also often look pretty and edible. It’s quite a risk to take, unfortunately, so I usually buy my mushrooms at the local store ... never to discover if the ones on my lawn are equally delicious and safe.

  29. Come to think of it, they are kind of like natures umbrellas. A nice dry place for the smaller animals to seek shelter in bad weather.
