Delicious Nasi Lemak

Nasi lemak is undoubtedly one of the favourite staple food among locals and tourists alike. It used to be a popular breakfast dish but these days, it is now available almost round-the-clock.

There are many versions available but I prefer the basic ones which involves rice cooked in coconut milk, served with crispy, deep fried anchovies, fried peanuts, a wedge of hard-boiled egg, cucumber slices and of course, the tasty sambal.

Perhaps one of the best that has come my way would be the outlet at Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth. It's a simple meal, but the chef’s skilful cooking methods truly enhanced the flavours to create a sinfully delicious dish. With the fragrant aromatic of screwpine leaves and the right blend of spices, every spoonful was a delight. Believe me, my kids could have platefuls of this tantalizing dish. Good nasi lemak is hard to come by these days and I believe it does not solely lie in the ingredients but in the cooking tips and tricks as well.

Hungry now? I am. Enjoy your breakfast this morning.

Tekkaus,

if you like anything spicy, then this dish would likely tantalize your taste buds. it's so delish, isn't it?. my next round of breakie would be more enticing than this. :)

Salitype,

it has always been my hot fave traditional food too. most importantly, the spicy sauce has gotta have anchovies inside to enhance the flavour.

Life Ramblings said...

exactly Chin Weng. Some warong serves the best nasi lemak.

oh yum...nasi lemak. one of my favourite food.

I never eat nasi lemak for breakfasts. Only eat fruits. hehe

I also don't like economy nasi lemak, those selling at just RM1 wrapped in banana leaf. I like my nasi lemak with chicken, lots of fried peanuts, anchovies and either hard boiled egg or omelette. I hate it when they are stingy in the egg. I need at least one egg, though two is better! Haha!

foongpc said...

Also I like petai in my nasi lemak. Surprised? And I don't like sotong!

foongpc said...

And the rice definitely must have the santan aroma, if not I cannot call that nasi lemak! So fussy me! Haha!

So is nasi lemak one of Malaysia's heritage food? I hope Indonesia don't fight with us on this one! : )

I still remember when I was younger, my grandfather almost always bought us nasi lemak for breakfast during the weekend. I must say I really enjoyed the taste of the basic ones back then. Nowadays, there are so many changes to this simple food that you can even add friend drumstick, otah, fishcakes, luncheon meat etc to it. I think I still prefer the basic one with good sambal chili.

SJ said...

the more the sambal the better it's hehe. n esp on banana leaf. how much is it?

From me to you, suejean =)

Oh Life Ramblings,
You are really making me miss Nasi Lemak. Gotta find one to eat the moment we arrive Malaysia. LOL

Life Ramblings said...

Mei Teng,

i used to eat it every single day during my younger days. but now, i choose to eat in moderation as i'm afraid of piling on the calories. :)

Life Ramblings said...

Foong,

i can't eat fruits alone for breakfast. i need at least a mug of oatmilk to kickstart my day.

i guess it's not easy to please your taste buds, huh? so many requirements. i still prefer sticking to the basics without adding the side dishes. btw, i dislike the smell of petais.

Life Ramblings said...

you're absolutely right, BK. what determines a good nasi lemak is the sambal chilli and the santan rice. i'm not much of side-dish eater so i usually take basic ones only.

Life Ramblings said...

SJ,

this nasi lemak is not pre-packaged. it's more like Nasi- kandar style where you get to add your side dishes on your rice. For basic ones, it usually costs about RM1.50-RM2 here.

Life Ramblings said...

Wenn,

it is sold almost everywhere but i think not all places serve good nasi lemak.

Life Ramblings said...

Denesa,

a good nasi lemak sure goes well with ikan bilis and good sambal.

Life Ramblings said...

Gattina,

if you like anything spicy, then this dish is likey to tickle your taste buds. Enjoy. :)

here I am at 753am (6.53am Malaysian Time) looking at those photo of LR's nasi lemak again! LOL

I can eat the RM1 packet ones but the sambal has to be very good. Not many ppl cook the sambal nice. :)

I love my nasi lemak with paru (lungs) or kerang (cockles). Oh, simply yummy!

Ayie said...

oh yes ramblings, I'm hungry now! That's the kind of dish i've been craving to have since i came here. None of those traditional cookings here and just mostly fastfoods.

enjoy your day!!
